Doris Lessing was born on October 22, 1919 in Kirmansha (now Iran), though his family soon moved to southern Rhodesia (now Zimbabwe). He left school at thirteen and thus began his self-taught. In 1949 he left Africa to settle in London, where she still lives and writing. In addition to an indisputable literary quality in his books breathe the thin and lucid critique of racial inequality, social and gender. In 1962 he published his most famous novel, "The Golden Notebook" , with which he reached a place at the summit of English letters which has never left and has earned him the Nobel Prize in Literature 2007.
